Sarah Sloan is the Washington, D.C., organizer of the anti-war group International ANSWER and a member of the Workers World Party (WWP), a Marxist-Leninist sect that was the sponsor and organizer of the major national demonstrations against the war in Iraq. Founded in 1959, the WWP is one of the most important organizations on the left. This group idolizes the former Soviet dictator and mass murderer Joseph Stalin and regards Fidel Castro as a hero of the common man. It has supported the Soviet invasions of Czechoslovakia and Afghanistan, as well as the regimes of Slobodan Milocevic in the former Yugoslavia and Kim Jong Il in North Korea - notwithstanding the barbarous atrocities and human rights violations they have committed. In the 1960s, the WWP called for the victory of the Vietcong over American troops in the Vietnam War. The WWP controls the activities of International ANSWER.
Miss Sloan dropped out of college at age 17 to promote International ANSWER and other WWP front groups such as the International Action Center (IAC), of which she serves as youth coordinator. She also writes for Workers World, the WWPs newsletter, and was the news editor of the Iraq Resource Information Site, a website that refers to the pre-war sanctions against Iraq as a “holocaust” and “genocide.”
On Sept. 30, 1999, Sloan wrote in Workers World, “And isn’t it arrogant for people in the United States to demand that Iraq be disarmed when the Pentagon bombs Iraq every day? When the U.S. has the biggest military arsenal in the world costing over $300 billion a year? When the U.S. is the aggressor worldwide? It’s more appropriate to demand the U.S. disarm.”
Just two months after 9/11, Sloan visited Japan to represent the IAC in the ninth assembly of the Campaign Coordinating Body of the Asia-Wide Campaign Against U.S. and Japanese Aggression and Domination of Asia (AWC). The purpose of this assembly was “to coordinate activities against the expanding Pentagon war that began in Afghanistan,” according to Workers World.
On Oct. 3, 2002, Sloan wrote in Workers World, “U.S. policy toward Iraq is not motivated simply by the narrow economic interests of those who own ExxonMobil, Texaco, and other oil companies. Karl Marx said that the government is the executive committee of the ruling capitalist class. Its function is to act in the interest of the capitalist class in its entirety. And so the U.S. government is currently considering not just how to make additional profit by gaining control of billions of additional barrels of oil, but how to maintain and extend its domination of the entire region.”

For those of you who do, as a matter of principle, oppose war in any form, the idea of supporting a conscientious objector who’s already been inducted in his combat service in Iraq might have a certain appeal. But let me ask you this: Would you render the same level of support to someone who hadn’t conscientiously objected, but rather instead rolled a grenade under their line officer in order to neutralize the combat capacity of their unit? … Conscientious objection removes a given piece of cannon fodder from the fray. Fragging an officer has a much more impactful effect.
